Boyd’s Bible Dictionary
:
(having received
mercy
). A symbolical name used in
Hosea 2:1
1
Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-hamah. (Hosea 2:1)
.
Concise Bible Dictionary
:
In
the
prophet
Hosea
they were to say to their sisters in
Israel
, Ruhamah, “having obtained
mercy
,” as in the margin. Hosea had in Hosea 1 called his
daughter
symbolically
Lo-ruhamah
, “not having obtained mercy,” to signify the state of Israel; but in
Hosea 1:11
11
Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel. (Hosea 1:11)
he speaks of restoration, so that Ruhamah apparently refers to the
remnant
, those who entered into the
spirit
and mind of the prophet, and in that sense were his “sisters” (
Hos. 2:1
1
Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-hamah. (Hosea 2:1)
; compare
Matt. 12:50
50
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. (Matthew 12:50)
).
