Saved for Both Worlds

“It saved my life for both worlds” said a soldier of a copy of the New Testament which he had carried into action in his pocket. The bullet passed into it, and rested on the word “everlasting” in John 12:5050And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. (John 12:50). “And I know” said Jesus, “that His life everlasting.” Finding what had taken place after the engagement; he said to himself there and then: “If this is His commandment, then I give myself to Him now.” Two days later he was wounded in the spine by a fragment of shell, it is feared fatally. So he was saved: just in time. — W. G. B.
