Jacob’s Twelve SonsZebulun

Zebulun was the tenth son of Jacob and the youngest of Leah. He entered Egypt with his three sons, but of himself personally we are told nothing. When they left Egypt those numbered of the tribe bearing his name were 57,400, and when they entered the promised land there were 60,500. Jacob said of his descendants, “Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea, and he shall be for an haven of ships, and his border shall be unto Zidon” (Genesis 49:13).

If we learn any practical lesson from Zebulun, it is that he speaks of the people of God having interaction with the world merely for monetary profit. Not that we can escape the world. We need to make a living and get through it, but not to the extent that the world drains us of our spiritual energy and enjoyment of our heavenly blessings in Christ.

Moses blessed the tribe thus, “Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out.” Then, classing him with Issachar, said, “They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand” (Deuteronomy 33:18-19).
