Worship

“And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant” (Joshua 5:13-14)?

Joshua, by falling on his face, showed what he thought of himself when he came into the presence of a heavenly being. He humbled himself and was ready to listen. How much better for us to humble ourselves (that is to put aside everything that we think we are) when we come into the presence of the Son of God to worship Him. And we should be ready to listen, too. Listen for the leading of the Spirit, listen to what the hymns say, listen to what Scriptures are read, and what they present as to the person and work of Christ, and listen to that which is expressed audibly in praise and prayer. Our worship sometimes is so superficial. Let’s be real and genuine.
