Peace

“Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when He had so said, He shewed unto them His hands and His side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you” (John 20:19-21).

The secret of peace is more than knowing that our sins are forgiven. It is having the Person and work of Christ before our souls, having our hearts engaged and occupied with the One who has done it all, and gazing by faith upon the marks of His accomplished workthose wounds in His hands feet, and side. This is true peace for the inner Christian life.

Everyone who has peace with God knows that his sins are gone forever, that he is standing in God’s eternal favor, and that the glory of God awaits him in the future. Happy is the person that lives in the enjoyment of the blessed knowledge of what the work of the Lord Jesus on the cross has accomplished for their eternal blessing.
