Numbers in Scripture: #10

The number ten in Scripture has to do with our responsibility toward God. We are equipped with ten fingers and ten toes, capacity for service and walk. But with capacity comes responsibility, and with this, corresponding judgment or reward.

• In Genesis 1, the words “God said” occur ten times.

• There were ten plagues in the book of Exodus denoting Pharaoh’s responsibility.

• There were ten commandments. See Exodus 20.

• The number ten appears several times in the measurements and items of the Tabernacle. For example: ten curtains, ten pillars, ten sockets, ten cubits, etc.

• The parables of the Kingdom in Matthew’s Gospel are ten in number. There are seven in chapter 13, one in chapter 22, and two in chapter 25.

• In Romans 8, there is a ten-fold security of the child of God.

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
