BreadPart 1

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven” (John 6:51).

What do a rat, an English robin, a thrush, a crow, a squirrel, a pigeon, and four magpies, all have in common? They all enjoyed an early breakfast of bread that Pauline put out for them on her garden table each morning while we were staying with her at her home in Croydon, England. It was very entertaining to watch the competition and the fighting for the most and the biggest pieces. The rat would scramble up on the table, grab the largest hunk he could, and race away to his storehouse under some bushes and plants. In a few seconds, he would be back and the larger birds would try to chase him off, while fighting amongst themselves. The squirrel waited for his chance, and the robin and the thrush took a few nibbles now and then, seemingly undisturbed by what went on around them. The pigeon ate continually and seemed to keep guard for the rat.

It made me think of the Lord Jesus, who said, “I am that Bread of Life” (John 6:48). How much of that “Living Bread” have you enjoyed today? It is abundantly available through the Living Word. We need to feed on it every day.
