Simplicity

“The simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3).

Today, I am on the island of Saint Vincent in the Eastern Caribbean. I have spent most of the day going over legal papers and deeds regarding the title to buildings where believers meet regularly for worship, prayer, and other Bible meetings. It is very complicated with a lot of legal jargon, and ramifications I don’t understand. Some of these deeds and papers were drawn up over sixty years ago, and those involved are long with the Lord.

As I turn away from all this, I am thankful to realize that Christianity is not complicated. It is simple faith in the person of Christ, both for salvation initially, and then for every step and every moment of the believer’s life and pathway. God has clearly and simply set the path of faith before us, and we are told, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). We sometimes tend to complicate things. But don’t complicate the Christian life or the Word of God. Walk with the Lord “in simplicity and godly sincerity” (2 Corinthians 1:12). It will certainly please Him!
