“I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none” (Psalm 69:20).
When something bad happens to someone in this world, even if the person deserves it, there are usually some people who take pity on them and feel sorry for them. But when the Lord Jesus suffered for us on the cross, there was no one to take pity on Him, or to comfort Him. He went through all that suffering alone. He was even forsaken of God on the cross, during the three hours of darkness, when He was “made sin” for us.
For the Lord Jesus, He knew that it was worth it, and in a coming day, when we are in heaven with Him, “He shall see of the travail (painful work) of His soul, and shall be satisfied” (Isa. 53:11). But how we ought to thank Him for all that He suffered for us, and for God’s glory!
