“The desire of our soul is to Thy name, and to the remembrance of Thee” (Isaiah 26:8).

Recently there was some shocking news on the internet about pilgrims who were visiting Mecca in Saudi Arabia in large numbers. They were of course going there because it is the burial place of Muhammed, a sacred place for Muslims. However, because of the extreme heat, and since many were there without suitable accommodation, more than 1,000 of them died. Yet they were willing to risk their lives to get there, even though they have no guarantee that it will do them any good.

How different with you and me, who know Christ as Savior! He does not ask us to make a pilgrimage, or to endure severe hardships for Him. Rather, His simple request is that we remember Him in His death. It is a simple act, and we do not have to do anything profound. We simply partake of a broken loaf and a cup, remembering that He suffered for us in His body, and shed His blood for us!
