• He pronounces a solemn anathema on everyone who loved not the Lord Jesus. There might be such, but he would in no way recognize them. (“1 Corinthians 16” by J.N. Darby)
• It is to be doubted indeed whether love can be unfeigned without abhorring evil; and what evil can compare with bearing the name of the Lord without real attachment to Him? Thus the first epistle to the Corinthians ends with a denunciation similar in solemnity to that with which the epistle to the Galatians opens. (“Notes on 1 Corinthians 16:13-24” by W. Kelly)
• “Anathema Maranatha” means to be accursed when the Lord comes. He has alluded in various places in the epistle that there was a strong likelihood that there were some among them who were mere professors. (“Closing Exhortations” by B. Anstey)
