³²Y Jehová hará tornar su sangre sobre su cabeza: que él ha muerto dos varones más justos y mejores que él, á los cuales mató á cuchillo sin que mi padre David supiese nada: á Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Israel, y á Amasa hijo de Jether, general de ejército de Judá.
³³La sangre pues de ellos recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre la cabeza de su simiente para siempre: mas sobre David y sobre su simiente, y sobre su casa y sobre su trono, habrá perpetuamente paz de parte de Jehová.
³⁴Entonces Benaía hijo de Joiada subió, y dió sobre él, y matólo; y fué sepultado en su casa en el desierto.
³⁵Y el rey puso en su lugar á Benaía hijo de Joiada sobre el ejército: y á Sadoc puso el rey por sacerdote en lugar de Abiathar. (1 R. 2:28‑35)

• Joab, an ambitious man, seeks to advance in the world and to win the first place in the kingdom. Though he is not named―with just cause―among "David's mighty men," he is a man of courage. He can appreciate righteousness and unrighteousness, but he does not oppose unrighteousness except when it runs counter to his personal designs; and when something righteous runs contrary to his interests he suppresses it. Nothing stops him; he has no scruples in satisfying his ambition. Someone has said of him: "We find Joab wherever there is evil to do or much to gain." Joab is a figure of political flesh.
