Japheth

Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:

Concise Bible Dictionary:

One of three sons of Noah. He was the father of Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. From these names it has been gathered that the descendants of Japheth spread over the whole of Europe and a great part of northern Asia. Noah prophesied of him, “God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.” He is not here brought into relationship with God, as Shem is: enlargement on the earth is what is predicted, and this has been manifestly fulfilled (Gen. 5:3232And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Genesis 5:32); Gen. 6:1010And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Genesis 6:10); Gen. 7:1313In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; (Genesis 7:13); Gen. 9:18,23,2718And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. (Genesis 9:18)
23And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. (Genesis 9:23)
27God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. (Genesis 9:27)
; Gen. 10:1,2,211Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. (Genesis 10:1‑2)
21Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born. (Genesis 10:21)
; 1 Chron. 1:4-54Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 5The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. (1 Chronicles 1:4‑5)).
