Ministry on This Verse

the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They were men of like passions as we are ourselves, but the peculiarity in the case of those apostles and prophets is, that in the midst of their weakness they were preserved-it was not, it is true, like Christ, absolute perfection-but there was the perfect preservation from error in what they wrote. And it was all the more remarkable that it was in one generation only. It was not like the succession that there was in the old dispensation of God. There we have prophets raised up at all times, wherever they were needed….There was not an error that ever crept into the church but is provided for here. There is not a good thing that God had to reveal but what is revealed here. (Lectures on Jude 16-19 by W. Kelly)
the apostles had already warned the saints that these mockers would come, walking after their own lusts, exalting themselves, not having the Spirit, but being in the state of nature (JUDE by J.N. Darby)
The reader will recall that the correct reading of verse 1 is "beloved in" God the Father. It is doubtless on this account that Jude addresses the saints here, and in verse 20, as "beloved," not only therefore as expressing his own love in the Spirit, but also as being in communion with the heart of God the Father concerning His people. (article #86573)
Not only had Enoch prophesied of these ungodly men, but the apostles of the Lord also had foretold their appearance. The Lord indeed never leaves His people unforewarned of the dangers and enemies they will have to encounter. (See Matt. 24; John 15:16.; 1 Tim. 4: 2 Tim. 3; Rev. 2: 3.; &c) (article #86573)
