The words "And the Lord said," are in several MSS. The Edd. omit, a precarious omission with no more than three uncials supporting the omission.
b
It is a mistake that (exētēsato) "demand" means always "to have prevailed", though it sometimes bears this force. But it is often no more than begging off, or to have in one’s power, as here. "Obtain by asking" is clean contrary to the context, and, indeed, to the truth generally.
