Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:

(yellow). Known early to Hebrews (Gen. 2:1111The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; (Genesis 2:11)); used for ornaments (Gen. 24:2222And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold; (Genesis 24:22)); money, temple furniture and utensils (Ex. 36:34-3834And he overlaid the boards with gold, and made their rings of gold to be places for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold. 35And he made a vail of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen: with cherubims made he it of cunning work. 36And he made thereunto four pillars of shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold: their hooks were of gold; and he cast for them four sockets of silver. 37And he made an hanging for the tabernacle door of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, of needlework; 38And the five pillars of it with their hooks: and he overlaid their chapiters and their fillets with gold: but their five sockets were of brass. (Exodus 36:34‑38); 1 Kings 7:48-5048And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained unto the house of the Lord: the altar of gold, and the table of gold, whereupon the showbread was, 49And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold, 50And the bowls, and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple. (1 Kings 7:48‑50)); emblem of purity and nobility (Job 23:1010But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. (Job 23:10); Lam. 4:11How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street. (Lamentations 4:1)). Obtained chiefly from Ophir (Job 28:1616It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. (Job 28:16); Parvaim (2 Chron. 3:66And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim. (2 Chronicles 3:6)); Sheba and Raamah (Ezek. 27:2222The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold. (Ezekiel 27:22)).

Concise Bible Dictionary:

Gold
The well-known precious metal. It was discovered very early (Gen. 2:11-1211The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. (Genesis 2:11‑12)). It was purified by fire (Prov. 17:33The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts. (Proverbs 17:3); Zech. 13:99And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God. (Zechariah 13:9)): and we read of “choice gold,” “fine gold,” “pure gold.” Precious things are compared with gold to show their value (Psa. 119:72,12772The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. (Psalm 119:72)
127Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. (Psalm 119:127)
). It was extensively used in the tabernacle and in the temple; some things being made of gold, and others being overlaid with it. For fabrics the gold was beaten into thin plates and cut into wires to be woven with the blue, the purple, and the fine twined linen. The heavenly Jerusalem is also described as of “pure gold” (Rev. 21:18,2118And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. (Revelation 21:18)
21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. (Revelation 21:21)
). Being the most costly metal it is regarded as symbolical of what pertains to God, and as signifying divine righteousness. The Lord Jesus counseled the poor Laodiceans to buy of Him “gold tried in the fire,” that they might be rich (Rev. 3:1818I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. (Revelation 3:18)).
