Hast thou seen a man wise in his own eyes?{HR}More hope of a fool than of him.
The sluggard saith, A lion in the way;{HR}A lion in the streets
The door turneth on its hinges,{HR}So the sluggard on his bed.
The sluggard burieth his hand in [a] dish;{HR}It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
The sluggard [is] wiser in his own eyes{HR}Than seven that answer discreetly.
He that passingly vexes himself with strife not [belonging] to him{HR}Is one that taketh a dog by the ears.
As a madman who casteth fire-brands, arrows and death;
So the man [that] deceiveth his neighbour and saith,{HR}Am not I in sport?
Where no wood is, the fire goeth out,{HR}And where no whisperer, the strife ceaseth.
[As] coals to hot embers, and wood to fire,{HR}So a contentious man to kindle strife.
A whisperer’s words [are] as dainty morsels,{HR}And they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Ardent lips, and a wicked heart{HR}[Are] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips,{HR}But he layeth up deceit within him
When his voice is gracious, believe him not,{HR}For [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
Though hatred is covered by dissimulation,{HR}His wickedness shall be made manifest in the congregation.
Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein;{HR}And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
A lying tongue hateth the injured by it,{HR}And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
