 The Apostle shows that with regard to the Jews themselves, the inheritance could not be on the principle of law without setting Abraham aside, for to him the inheritance had been given by promise, and this implied that it was by faith. (Romans 4 by J.N. Darby)
 Grace is by faith and is a matter of believing; law-keeping is a matter of doing. Paul, therefore, concludes that Abraham is indeed "the father of us all" (vs. 16).
