Usually built strong to keep out wild animals (Num. 32:1616And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: (Numbers 32:16); 2 Sam. 7:88Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: (2 Samuel 7:8); John 10:1616And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. The bold, cote, or enclosure was also the place where the sheep were collected at shearing time (Jer. 23:33And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. (Jeremiah 23:3); Zeph. 2:66And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. (Zephaniah 2:6)), which was a season of festivity (1 Sam. 25:7-117And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel. 8Ask thy young men, and they will show thee.
