18th Birthday

“He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised”
(Luke 4:18).

Alice really didn’t intend to be late for the gospel service but it was her 18th birthday. As she opened the door and tried to slip in quietly, the first words she heard from the preacher were, “Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (Luke 13:16).

These words went straight to her heart. “Bound these 18 yearsThat’s me,” she repeated to herself. “If I don’t belong to the Lord, I must be serving Satan.” She heard little of the rest of the sermon. She saw that she had spent all her lifethose 18 yearsin pleasure and forgetfulness of God.

The meeting ended, and Alice returned home and knelt by her bed. As she prayed, the rays of God’s sunshine beamed into her soul and she was set free, delivered, loosed, saved on her 18th birthday.
