“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” (Ephesians 6:18).

Here we have one final part of the armor of God, and it is perhaps the most important of them all. We cannot use any of the armor of God in our own strength; we need the Lord’s strength. That is why prayer is so important in our lives, for prayer is a recognition of our weakness, and expresses our dependence on the Lord. We may put on all of the armor, and feel that we are ready to meet the enemy. However, we must remember that the battle belongs to the Lord.

David was confident when he went out against Goliath, and knew that even a giant could not fight against the Lord. But David depended on the Lord; he did not depend on his own skill with a sling, or anything like that. When Goliath was defeated, David gave the Lord the credit for it.

Let us remember to pray every day, and perhaps several times a day. Even a short prayer is all that is needed when we are faced with a difficult situation in our lives!
