The son of Saul had "a great man" to support his throne, and everything collapsed when this support failed him. Such was not the case with David. Experience had led him to know the value of man and the value of God. (Ishbosheth: 2 Samuel 4 by H.L. Rossier)
At Ziklag David in anguish "strengthened himself in Jehovah his God" (1 Sam. 30:6). Ishbosheth did not know this resource. In those happy days when God's favor gives stability and strength to our mountain we must carefully and daily seek the true source of our strength. (Ishbosheth: 2 Samuel 4 by H.L. Rossier)
