Then they came neare, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which alterethl not.

Dan. 3:8‑12• ⁸Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
⁹They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
¹⁰Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
¹¹And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
