GEN 11:4⁴And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. (Genesis 11:4) GEN 12:2²And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: (Genesis 12:2)

Let us make us a name.

I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

Genesis 12:2²And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: (Genesis 12:2)

We may try all our lives to make a name for ourselves, but the only name worth having is the one that God makes for us. The only blessing worth having and the only blessing with any eternal worth is the blessing of God. Self-promotion is futile. “Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased” (Matthew 23:12¹²And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. (Matthew 23:12)).
