• His words to his visitors next morning have a tinge of disappointment in them: “Jehovah refuseth to give me leave to go with you.” His heart was not in communion with God about His people. Gladly would he have overwhelmed them in ruin for the sake of reward; but he was conscious of divine restraint. (“To and From Mesopotamia” by W.W. Fereday)
• What is his answer? “Jehovah refuseth to give me leave to go.” He would gladly have gone; his heart was set upon the reward of Balak; but he fears before God.
