 In the parenthesis {v.13--17} the Apostle, after having presented Adam as the figure of Him who was to come—of Christ, argues that the character of the gift cannot be inferior to that of the evil. (Romans 5:12-21 by J.N. Darby)
 The first "many" in verse 15 refers to all under Adam's headship who became subject to death as a result of his transgression. This would be the whole human race. The second "many" refers to all who are part of the new creation race under Christ. This would be believers only. (The Doctrine of DeliveranceFrom Sin: Romans 5:12-7:6 by B. Anstey)
