Temptation

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

God gave us the gift of our minds, and our bodies, as well as the ability to love. Scripture never promises that avoiding temptation would be easy, only worthwhile. Keeping our hearts and lives pure may be a struggle, but with God’s help it is possible. Few decisions are as important to your future happiness as this one regarding purity.

Paul as an older brother in the Lord, exhorted a younger brother by the name of Timothy, “Keep thyself pure” (1 Timothy 5:22). We need to let these three words echo in our ears and conscience every moment of every day. The minute we let our guard down Satan is right there with another temptation. In a world where evil is so accessible we need to be doubly careful. Paul also had a prayer for the Christians in Thessalonica: “The very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
