Hide-and-Seek
“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb” (Revelation 6:15-16).
When we were boys we used to play hide-and-seek. The trick was to be able to hide so well that no one could find us. But in the day of judgment there will be no hide-and-seek. Nobody will be able to escape as much as they would like to. The next verse says, “For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” (Revelation 6:17).
The question is raised in the book of Hebrews, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation” (Hebrew 2:3). The answer is in the verses we have quoted from Revelation 6. There is no escape! The way of escape is available now through the death of Christ. “Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Romans 5:9). Don’t play hide-and-seek with God! It just doesn’t work.
