God Speaks — Just Listen!
Good sound advice, isn’t it? Yes, when God speaks we need to be all ears. Several times the Bible reminds us, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15). As you read your Bible today listen for the voice of God your Father speaking to you. He has a wonderful message, whether it is counsel, comfort, exhortation or correction.
This is the era of noise, confusion and just general helter-skelter and discombobulation. We tend to be preoccupied with our own problems and busyness, and we are not always good listeners. As they say, “It goes in one ear and out the other.” The result is we often end up in difficulty — sometimes serious, sometimes not. But don’t tune out when it comes to the voice of God. Let’s be like Samuel who, after realizing that God was calling him, immediately responded, “Speak; for Thy servant heareth” (1 Samuel 3:10). As a result of having a listening ear he received a very serious and important message that he would have otherwise missed.
