Q. What Scriptures tell us something about the state of those believers who have died before they get their glorified bodies?

A. There is perhaps very little told us about the believers who have died, but certainly enough to comfort us in the realization that they are in the conscious enjoyment of the Lord’s presence. Here are some verses in that regard:

To the thief on the cross, “Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with Me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).

Paul said, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain… having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better” (Philippians 1:21,23).

These verses show that “the dead in Christ” (1 Thessalonians 4:16), are waiting for the resurrection when they, like us, will have bodies “fashioned like unto His glorious body” (Philippians 3:21). In the meantime we can say, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord” (Revelation 14:13).
