Egypt’s magicians had to admit, “This is the finger of God.” The whole teaching of Scripture leads us to see that God’s finger is more powerful than man’s fist. The language of the Bible is often figurative but even more forceful because of the figures used. Listen to this from the pen of David, who wrote, “When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; what is man?” (Psalm 8:3-4). When the threatening fist of man is raised, then look up to the heavens and remember the finger of God. When the finger of God is raised, all hostile fists must fall, and when the finger of God writes, it makes an indelible and unalterable impression. The Lord said: “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you” (Luke 11:20). If the finger of God is thus described, how safe are they who are in His hands.
