“And some said…he [the Apostle Paul] seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection” (Acts 17:18).

This is the Lord’s day—the day that our Lord rose from the dead. Those who preached the gospel in the early church clearly recognized the importance of emphasizing the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, for if He were still in the grave, He would be just like every other religious leader. But Christianity can show the world an empty tomb, for the One who once lay there is now risen, ascended to heaven, and seated there at God’s right hand.

Because He is risen from the dead, we can come together and remember Him in death. We could not remember Him in death if He were still dead; that would not make sense. My parents are both dead, as far as this world is concerned, and their bodies are in a grave. I remember them as they were when they were alive. But because the Lord Jesus is alive, we can remember Him in death. What a privilege that is!
