 The light is the purest thing, and it manifests all else. That was what Christ was—perfect purity, and as such He manifests everything. (Christ, the Want of the Soul: Part 2)
 “Light” signifies absolute holiness and truth, whereas “darkness” signifies evil and the absence of the knowledge of God. By stating that “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all,” John makes it clear that God is absolutely holy and that it is not possible that sin could be found in Him, or in any way be associated with Him. The true word is angelia (message), which all critics endorse, though excellent authority sustains the unquestionable error of epangelia (promise) imported here from ch. 2:25 where it is certainly right.
