A Soldier's Praise Letter

“Oh! God has been good to me in preserving me from harm and danger, and I have had some narrow escapes just lately. Only a few days ago, before we moved, we were coming out and were shelled; we flung ourselves on the ground, having no cover, and by the mercy of God we were spared—eight of us. One of them said, when we got up and made a dash for it: Another chance given us George.’ ‘Yes,’ said I, ‘take it, and take it now.’
“That’s the time to find out whether your anchor holds or no. Thank God, mine holds— ‘within the veil’—saved by grace alone, satisfied by Christ alone. Praise Him, I feel full of joy. ‘I feel like singing all the time.’ The boys have christened me R. G., the singing Sapper.’ Oh, my cup runneth over, and my saucer is full. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! I find, dear brother, the more I confess Him, the more I want to, and the happier I am. ‘He that winneth souls is wise.’—G. K.”
Soldiers, who read this letter! It is written by one of yourselves; by one who believes on the Saviour—one who knows he cannot save himself, and trusts in One who can save him.
Many of you dear fellows, misled by false friends; whom God will punish, have had to say: “They have taken away my Lord.” Yes, they seek to rob you of the Lord Jesus, but as you read this, go on your knees and say: “Lord, save me or I perish.” If He does not save you, you will perish—but, “whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
