Judg. 4:1,3‑24• 1{i}And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of Jehovah; now Ehud was dead.{/i}
3And the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
4And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
5And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-Naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not Jehovah God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun,
7{i}and I will draw unto thee, to the torrent Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, and his chariots and his multitude, and I will give him into thy hand.{/i}
8{i}And Barak said to her{/i}, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go, {i}but{/i} if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.
9And she said, I will surely go with thee, notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour {i}upon the way which thou goest{/i}; for Jehovah shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. {i}And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.{/i}
10{i}And Barak called together Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and there went up at his feet ten thousand men; and Deborah went up with him.{/i}
11{i}(Now Heber the Kenite had severed himself from the Kenites, from the children of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak of Zaannaim, which is by Kedesh.){/i}
12{i}And they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to mount Tabor.{/i}
13{i}Then Sisera gathered together all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth-Goim to the torrent Kishon.{/i}
14{i}And Deborah said to Barak, Up; for this is the day in which Jehovah hath given Sisera into thy hand! Is not Jehovah gone out before thee? And Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.{/i}
15{i}And Jehovah discomfited Sisera, and all the chariots, and all the army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera got down from his chariot, and fled on foot.{/i}
16{i}And Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the army, to Harosheth-Goim; and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not one was left.{/i}
17{i}And Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.{/i}
18{i}And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And he turned in to her, into the tent, and she covered him with the quilt.{/i}
19{i}And he said to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty. And she opened the flask of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.{/i}
20{i}And he said to her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be if any one come and inquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.{/i}
21{i}And Jael Heber's wife took a tent-pin, and took the hammer in her hand, and went softly to him, and smote the pin into his temples, and it penetrated into the ground; for he had fallen into a deep sleep and was faint; and he died.{/i}
22{i}And behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael went out to meet him, and said to him, Come, and I will show thee the man whom thou seekest. And he went into her tent, and behold, Sisera lay dead, and the pin was in his temples.{/i}
23{i}So God subdued on that day Jabin king of Canaan before the children of Israel.{/i}
24{i}And the hand of the children of Israel ever advanced, and prevailed against Jabin king of Canaan, until they had cut off Jabin king of Canaan.{/i} (Judg. 4:1,3‑24)
Judg. 11:4‑33• 4{i}And it came to pass after some time, that the children of Ammon fought with Israel.{/i}
5{i}And when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob.{/i}
6{i}And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight against the children of Ammon.{/i}
7{i}And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come to me now when ye are in trouble?{/i}
8{i}And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Therefore we have returned to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be head over all of us the inhabitants of Gilead.{/i}
9{i}And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If ye take me back to fight against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah give them up before me, shall I be your head?{/i}
10{i}And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Jehovah be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words!{/i}
11{i}Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them; and Jephthah uttered all his words before Jehovah in Mizpah.{/i}
12{i}And Jephthah{/i} sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land?
13And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.
14{i}And Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon,{/i}
15{i}and said to him,{/i} Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon.
16When Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh,
17then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land; but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
18Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, {i}but came not within the border of Moab, for the Arnon is the border of Moab.{/i}
19And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.
20{i}But{/i} Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21And Jehovah God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok. {i}and from the wilderness unto the Jordan.{/i}
23{i}And now{/i} Jehovah God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before His people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?
24Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever Jehovah our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
25{i}And now{/i} art thou anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,
26while Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years— {i}why did ye not recover them within that time?{/i}
27{i}So I have not sinned against thee, but it is thou who doest me wrong in making war against me. Jehovah, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon!{/i}
28{i}But the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not to the words of Jephthah that he had sent him.{/i}
29Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
30And Jephthah vowed a vow unto Jehovah, {i}and said, If thou wilt without fail give the children of Ammon into my hand,{/i}
31It shall be that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be Jehovah's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
32{i}And Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Jehovah gave them into his hand.{/i}
33{i}And he smote them from Aroer until thou come to Minnith, twenty cities, even unto Abel-Cheramim, with a very great slaughter; and the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.{/i} (Judg. 11:4‑33)
