He comes down with the apostles from His communion with God. In the plain He is surrounded by the company of His disciples, and then by a great multitude, drawn together by His word and works. (Luke 6 by J.N. Darby)
From verse 17 to the end of the chapter we get a record of the instruction which He gave to His disciples, and especially to these twelve men. We may give a general summary of His utterances by saying that He instructed them as to the character that would be produced in them by the grace of God that He was making known. The discourse much resembles the Sermon on the Mount of Matt. 5-7, but the occasion appears to have been different. (Luke 6 by F.B. Hole)

WK Translation Notes

a
Luke’s language does not mean "a plain," but rather a level place or plateau on the mountain, up to which the Lord went to pray all night. It was clearly the same discourse; but the Spirit acted, not as a mere reporter (which is not the manner of inspiration), but as an infallible editor, as it were, for the distinctive design of each Gospel.
