Ministry on This Verse

When the Lord announces His rejection, humiliation and death, and that before all the world, the flesh of Peter—wounded by the idea of a Master thus despised and rejected—shows its energy by daring to rebuke the Lord Himself. (Mark 8 by J.N. Darby)
Peter's remonstrance was not without strong human affection. He heartily loved the Savior too. But, unknown to himself, there was the unjudged spirit of the world. He could not bear that their Master should be so dishonored and so suffer. There was some unbelief of human iniquity: could the elders, chief priests, and scribes be so wicked after all? Moreover, there was a want of understanding that there was no other way to deliver man—that this was the only means of glorifying God about man's sin. (John 13:31.) (Remarks on Mark 8:22-38 by W. Kelly)
