He does not here speak of the efficacy of the blood in putting away sins (all essential as that blood is, and the basis of all the rest), but of the new position entirely beyond the reach of everything to which the judgment of God applied. (Romans 8 by J.N. Darby)
{v.1-3} The first verses of this chapter sum up the result of God’s work with regard to this subject in Romans 5:12 to the end, chapter 6 and chapter 7: no condemnation for those who are in Christ; the law of the Spirit of life in Him delivering from this law of sin and death; and that which the law could not do God has done. (Romans 8 by J.N. Darby)
—Thus in verses 1-11, we have the Spirit in life; —in verses 12-30, the Spirit as a power acting in the saint; —in verses 31-33, God acting for, not in, us to ensure our blessing. (Romans 8 by J.N. Darby)

The best MSS. and ancient versions omit the last part of the verse. Believing it to be spurious on the best and ample authority, I am of opinion that it is of great importance to the force of the passage that the gloss added should be rejected. These words are of the greatest value in verse 4. If introduced here, it would dislocate all truth, impair all grace, and eventually destroy all the springs of power in walk. But the first verse of the chapter speaks only of position, and if you bring in walk there, the position is unsettled, and the truth is spoiled.
