Counting Sheep — Part 2
I saw another excellent variation to the saying, If you can’t sleep count sheep. It was as follows:
If at night you can’t sleep,
talk to the Shepherd, rather than count sheep.
This is also a good idea. We have a Shepherd of whom it says, “Behold, He…shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4). He is available at any hour of any day, and not only can we meditate on Him in the night, but actually talk to Him. There are very few people that would appreciate us waking them up or calling them in the middle of the night, just to have a talk, or even to unburden our hearts. But since our Great Shepherd does not sleep, we can come any hour of any day. We will never get put on hold, or call waiting, and we will never get a busy signal. The line is always open!
Not only is He available, and willing to listen, but He is able to take perfect care of us, day or night. The prophet Isaiah tells us, “He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young” (Isaiah 40:11).
