“Fools make a mock at sin” (Proverbs 14:9).
When we are among unsaved people at school and at work, we will often hear things that are sinful. Sometimes this takes the form of filthy jokes, or jokes that make it sound funny to do something wrong. It can be tempting even to us as Christians to laugh, but the Word of God says only a fool does this.
Many years ago, a Christian man who worked in an automobile factory was surrounded by some of his fellow workers who then told a filthy joke when he could not get away from them. When he did not laugh, they asked him why. His answer was, “Men, I live in the presence of God.” That was a good answer, and the men walked away ashamed. Let us always remember that we too live in the presence of God.
