Minor Prophets — Joel
Joel gives us prophesies concerning a day when the rights of the Lord Jesus will be asserted, that which is referred to in the Bible as the Day of the Lord. “Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come” (Joel 1:15). The judgments that Joel speaks of are judgments that take place both before and after the millennium, which is the thousand-year reign of Christ.
There is a solemn summons to repentance in view of the chastening hanging over them, and there will be a remnant who do respond and turn to the Lord. To such the Lord will bring deliverance and wonderful and complete kingdom blessings. There will be full restoration and a pouring out of His Spirit at that time. “And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and My people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions” (Joel 2:27-28). What a wonderful day of peace and blessing it will be for Israel.
