“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

When we think of doing good works, perhaps we think especially of doing something for other people, such as helping them out when they need it. Or, perhaps we think of telling someone else about the Lord Jesus. Maybe we think of something else to do that is specifically connected to the Lord and His work here in this world. These things are all good works, but as we see in our verse for today, we are to do everything to the glory of God.

Some of those in the assemblies in the New Testament were slaves, and always had to do what they were told. In many cases they did not have what we would call “free time.” But the Apostle Paul also said to them, “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men…for ye serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24). Whether we are doing schoolwork, or something our parents have asked us to do, we can do it as unto the Lord. When we get older and work for a living, we can do that for the Lord too. The Lord has promised to reward us for this, for if we love the Lord Jesus and seek to please Him, we will do everything cheerfully and with a good attitude. That is honoring to the Lord Jesus.
