“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:27).

Although baptism does not have anything to do with our eternal salvation, yet it is very important for us as Christians. In our verse for today, we see that those who have been baptized have “put on Christ.” What does this mean?

It means that before this world, you take the place of belonging to Christ. When I was young, people sometimes wore what were called “sandwich boards.” They would have two large pieces of wood, or sometimes thick cardboard, hung over their shoulders by straps or pieces of rope. Then there was usually something written on the sandwich boards, which now hung down on the person’s chest and back. Often it was advertising, but sometimes Christians would put gospel verses on the sandwich board, and then walk down the street.

Being baptized is like that. You are telling the world that you belong to Christ. This puts a big responsibility on us, for then we need to act like Christ, and honor Him in our life.
