“And He [the Lord Jesus] ordained twelve…and Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed Him” (Mark 3:14,19).

Because He is God, the Lord Jesus knew very well what kind of a man Judas Iscariot was, and He knew that Judas would eventually betray Him. Why then would Jesus pick a man like that for one of His disciples? If we knew that someone was going to play a very mean trick on us later, would we choose that person as our friend? Not likely! Apparently Judas knew how to say the right things, and do the right things, so that none of the other disciples suspected that he would betray the Lord Jesus.

I believe that the Lord Jesus chose Judas to show how far a person could go in pretending to be a real believer, when there was no real faith in his heart. He probably performed miracles, preached to people, and acted in every way like a true disciple. Yet in the end he went into a lost eternity.

In a coming day, there will be others who will have acted like Judas, and who will expect to be admitted into heaven. But the Lord Jesus will have to say, “I never knew you.” Tomorrow we will see how this will happen.
