“And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me” (Isaiah 6:8).

The prophet Isaiah wrote this in the first person, referring to himself. He was a faithful prophet who was ready to go and give a message for the Lord, to the people of Israel. However, it is also a picture of the Lord Jesus who was willing to come down into this world on behalf of God the Father, to show the love of God to this world, and to die for us.

The Lord Jesus did not have to come, but when someone was needed to complete the work of redemption, He came forward. He was the only One who could complete that work, and He came willingly, knowing well what it would cost Him.

Sometimes you and I volunteer for something, perhaps not realizing what it will cost us to do it. But the Lord Jesus knew what it would cost, and He said, “Here am I; send me.” He heard the voice of the Lord, and responded in the right way.
