“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

This verse gives us another aspect of our new life in Christ. We cannot work to obtain that new life in Christ, for it is a free gift through the work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. All that was necessary to obtain that free gift of eternal life has already been done.

However, once we have that new life, the Lord wants us to display that new life in our walk down here. Since we have the life of Christ, we are to walk as Christ did in this world. None of us does it perfectly, for we still have our old sinful fallen nature, and sometimes that old nature comes out in our behavior.

The Apostle Paul could say, “For me to live is Christ.” Christ was before him, and he used all his energy and time to live for Christ. Paul was not perfect, and we know that even he made mistakes, but he had as his one goal to live for Christ. Are you and I doing this?
