Howbeit the Lord God of Israel chose meb before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judahc to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the housed of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:

¹¹And Samuel said to Jesse, Are these all the young men? And he said, There is yet the youngest remaining, and behold, he is feeding the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit at table till he come hither.
¹²And he sent and brought him in. And he was ruddy, and besides of a lovely countenance and beautiful appearance. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.
¹³And Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. (1 Sam. 16:7‑13)

¹⁵but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before thee.
