To the chief musician: a psalm of David.{HR}Deliver me, Jehovah, from the evil man;{HR}From the violent man thou wilt preserve me,
Who devise evils in heart;{HR}All day they gather [for] wars.
They whet their tongue like a serpent:{HR}Adder’s poison [is] under their lips, Selah.
Keep me, Jehovah, from the wicked one’s hands;{HR}From the violent man thou wilt preserve me,{HR}Who devised to overthrow my steps.
Proud ones hid a snare for me, and cords;{HR}They spread a net by the way-side (hand);{HR}Traps they set for me, Selah.
I said to Jehovah, my God (art) thou:{HR}Give ear, Jehovah, to the voice of my supplication.
Jehovah Lord , strength of my salvation,{HR}Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle (armour).
Grant not, Jehovah, the wicked one’s desires;{HR}His device further not: they exalt themselves, Selah.
[As for] the head of my surroundings,{HR}Let the mischief of their lips cover them.
Let burning coals be cast upon them;{HR}Let them be cast into the fire,{HR}Into deep water that they rise not.
A man of tongue shall not be established in the earth (land);{HR}A man of violence, evil shall hunt him to ruin (destruction).
I know that Jehovah will maintain the poor one’s cause,{HR}The right of the needy.
Surely the righteous shall give thanks to thy name,{HR}The upright shall sit in thy presence.
