A DEAR girl, thirteen years of age, who had yielded herself to Christ, who, she came to understand, claimed her “for His own possession” (Titus 2:14¹⁴Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (Titus 2:14)), was not satisfied with the ending of the hymn, the first two lines of which are—

“Knocking, knocking; who is there?

Waiting, waiting, oh, how fair!”

She therefore composed the following additional verse:

“Enter, enter, heavenly Guest,

Welcome, welcome to my breast!

I had long withstood Thy knocking,

For my heart was full of sin;

But Thy love has overcome me:

Blessed Saviour, O, come in!”

If this is not the language of your heart, young reader, whether boy or girl, why should it not be?

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man (or any one) hear My voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.” Rev. 3:20²⁰Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20).

Does not Jesus speak to you in these words?
