The position of the Christian in this world in relation to what is

him just as “pilgrim” refers to what is
before
him,
1 Pet. 2:11

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; (1 Peter 2:11)
. It is the fact of being a pilgrim that makes him a stranger. Christ was “a stranger here” because he was not of this world, and such should His people be also (John 17).
